A Tale of Two $20s

George Floyd died because a cop kneeled on his neck until he died.

The reason he was stopped and arrested was attempted fraud — trying to use a fake $20 bill.

I’m white, and work in a bar. A few weeks ago, I went to the bank to deposit my tips. The teller held up one of the $20 bills I had just given him to deposit.

“I’m sorry,” he said, “but this one is fake.” There was no accusation, no police called, no knee on my neck. Just my white, hot outrage. I was furious — wait — you mean I LOSE $20??? “Don’t I get a real $20 back?” I asked the teller. He was apologetic. “No,“ he said, “we have to confiscate this and take it out of circulation.”

Just like those cops did to George Floyd.

I lost $20, and he lost his life.
